The Philippine Coast Guard is now preparing for the coming long holiday on November 1, All Saints Day and November 2, All Souls Day.
PCG chief Admiral Ramon Liwag directed all coast guard units to be on alert to ensure the safety of passengers who will surely flock in seaports during these periods.
During an interview, the coast guard chief said he already signed a Letter of Instruction (LOI) directing all coast guard districts, units, and stations to be on alert especially when passengers heading for the provinces start to peak.
Liwag also assured sea travelers that K-9 units will be deployed.
According to the coast guard, around 126 bomb-sniffing canines with 99 seasoned dogs will be deployed at ports to step up the checking of passengers and luggage.
The coast guard chief said they are also intensifying security checks to avoid the repeat of M/V Superferry 14 bombing in 2004 that killed more than 100 people.
Meanwhile, the coast guard chief added that they will remain on alert until all passengers have returned safely to their homes. (PNA)
