Capiz gears up for National Correctional Consciousness Week

A sequence of media interviews and other publicity efforts to increase public awareness on existence and services of various correctional agencies were lined up by the Parole and Probation Administration in Capiz, it is in line with this year's National Correctional Consciousness Week celebration from October 24 to 31.
"We will also conduct jail visitation and interview inmates for would-be probationers," said PPA – Capiz Parole and Probation Officer chide Wynnona B. Dator.
During the visit, leaflets and other IEC materials on rehabilitative services for the prisoners will be distributed to inmates and PPA's partners in the criminal justice system.
The highlight of the week-long celebration with the theme "Pagbabagong Buhay Abot-kamay, Tuwid na Landas Ating Gabay" is an "Ugnayan – Talakayan on October 28 at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Barangay San Jose here.
The 24th Prison Awareness Sunday on October 30 by the Episcopal Commission on Prison Pastoral Care of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines coincides with the NCCW celebration.
In a memorandum, Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse M. Robredo has also enjoined local chief executives to visit any prison, jail or detention facility during the celebration to raise the level of consciousness and promote awareness in both public and private sectors of the plight of prisoners, detainees, probationers and parolees.
The celebration is mandated in Presidential Proclamation No. 551 of then President Fidel V. Ramos which declares the last week of October as NCCW. (PIA)
