Quezon City residents will soon be relieved from spending hours of travel time on some of the major roads in the city.
Secretary to the Mayor and Novaliches District Center (NDC) officer-in-charge Tadeo Palma said that the city government and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be undertaking road widening in some heavy traffic-prone roads and highways including Quirino Highway and General Luis in Novaliches and IBP Road in Batasan Hills.
At present, Palma said that the road widening of Quirino Highway and General Luis had initially commenced in portions where some business establishments affected had been asked to voluntarily vacate their areas to give way for the road improvement or else face demolition.
He said once the project in Quirino Highway, which will start in Mindanao Avenue to Sauyo Road is completed, there will be two additional lanes that motorists can utilize and this may ease the traffic difficulties in the area.
Palma said that the IBP road widening is also necessary to give way to the proposed Batasan General Hospital, which the city government will finance to augment the city's health facilities in District 2.
