The health needs of small sugar cane planters and workers in Capiz will now be addressed by the national government through the Nurses Assigned in Rural Service project.
Capiz Department of Labor and Employment Information Officer William Dungog disclosed that on October 26, DOLE Regional Director Crispin Dannug, Jr. had turned over to the Capiz First Federation of United Cooperatives, Inc., represented by Dr. Josefina Tinsay, the amount of P188,533.85. This represents half of the total budget for the implementation of the NARS.
He explained that 14 nurses will be hired in partnership with the Capiz Milling District Tripartite Council through the CAFUCCI and whose monthly allowance for a duration of six months will be charged from the forfeited undistributed social amelioration bonus of the milling district amounting to P 377,067.70.
"This project aims to address the health needs and problems of the sugar workers and small sugar planters in the milling district, and provide emergency employment for nurses who are dependents of the sugar workers and small sugar planters in the Capiz milling district," Dungog said.
He pointed out that through the project there will be an augmentation of health workers in the rural health units of the identified local government units, namely in President Roxas, Maayon, Pilar, Panitan, Pontevedra, Dumalag and Cuartero.
Dungog also revealed that the remaining half of the budget will be released by their office after the same has been started.
For his part, Director Dannug said that the hiring of nurses under the NARS project is in lined with the social amelioration program of their office which is intended for the sugar workers.
He said that sugar workers and their families should be given what is due to them to uplift their living condition.

Dannug explained that the program aims to augment the income of sugar workers, finance socio-economic programs/projects that are geared to provide additional livelihood and employment opportunities to the sugar workers and their families, promote sugar workers' welfare and social protection, and increase stakeholders' participation in decision making, particularly on policies related to workers' development under Republic Act 6982.
