GIZ to celebrate Geographic Information System Day 2011 in Maasin City

Together with the UP-Regional Environmental Information System and the City Government of Maasin, the GIZ-EnRD Program will observe the international celebration locally in the province, particularly in Maasin City on November 17, 2011 at the Maasin City Gymnasium.

GIZ – EnRD Program Chief Adviser Dr. Andreas Lange said the GIS Day is being observed internationally every 3rd week of November in his letter- invitation to PIA Southern Leyte.

He added that the conduct of GIS Day will not only complement the efforts of the implementation of the Southern Leyte Environment Code but will also concur with the Provincial Development Action Plan.

That as stated in the Provincial Development Action of Southern Leyte, one of the goals is to intensify the awareness of environmental concerns to promote disaster prevention and preparedness to complement the economic advancement of the province, Lange said.

Among the highlights of the local celebration, Ing. Ubo Pakes, GIS Tailor -made, GEOPLAN will facilitate for the "Soft Launching" of the Provincial GIS Viewer and its presentation while Dr. Andreas Lange and Hon. Maloney Samaco, Mayor of the City of Maasin will award the plaque of appreciation.

While Ma. Brenda Gajelan, URA of the UPVC-REIS will tackle the GPS Lecture and Geocoaching Activity (for students) and awarding of certificates with Prof. John Paul Yusiong, Coordinator, UPVTC- REIS and Jay-ar Ragub, GIZ Advisor. (PIA)
