The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to conduct simultaneous mock elections in Metro Manila and select areas nationwide on February 2 (Saturday) to ensure a smooth conduct of the May 13 polls.
Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said the mock elections would be conducted in the UP-Diliman campus and Bagong Lipunan ng Crame from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The mock polls will also be conducted in 10 locations in the provinces, including Tawi-Tawi and Cagayan De Oro City from 7 a.m. to noon time.
Commissioner Rene Sarmiento said the conduct of mock polls is in compliance to Republic Act No. 9369 to spot whatever problems could arise involving the machines and the transmission of results.
In the 2010 national elections, the poll body also conducted mock polls and used the names of national heroes and popular brands in the training ballot. (PNA)
