DOE assures power supply to be restored soon

Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla assured that the power supply will be restored before 6 in the evening. Loss of power supply was experienced at 2 in the afternoon at Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.
According to Petilla, the problem started after Sual 1 Power Plant in Pangasinan trip-off. Sual Coal Power Plant has the capacity to supply up to 600 mega-watts.
The situation resulted to domino effect for it affected 4 more power plants like Sta Rita Power Plant of First Gas Corporation and San Lorenzo Natural Gas Plant in Batangas, Quezon Power Coal Plant in Pagbilao, Quezon and Ilijan Natural Gas Plant in Batangas.
According to Manny Pangilinan, Chairman of Meralco, the problem is not from them but from the transmission lines, something that is confirmed by Joe Zaldariaga, spokeperson of Meralco.
There has been 50 percent loss of power supply at Meralco, due to power loss that came from the power plants; almost half of the 7000 mega-watts required supply is lost after the power failure this afternoon. (RPF)
