Worldwide COVID-19 cases tops 50 million, deaths at 1.2 million

Cases of the new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has reached over 50 million, data from the John Hopkins University revealed.
According to the Hopkins tally, a total of 50,395,174 people have been infected by the virus with over 1.2 million deaths and 32.9 million recoveries as of 11 am Monday, November 9.

Meanwhile, AFP reported that Europe has once again become the epicenter of the virus with 12.6 million confirmed cases and more than 305,000 deaths. Just last week, Europe reported 2.1 million new cases.
The United States on the other hand is nearing to10 million total infections as daily cases now reach 100,000.
The coronavirus, which originated in Huwan, China, erupted in December 2019, a few months later the World Health Organization declared the disease as a pandemic after quickly spreading across the globe.
Scientists worldwide have been speeding to develop a vaccine in a bid to end the global pandemic.
