The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will be coming out with a resolution next week to seek the assistance of President Benigno Aquino III in asking Congress to postpone the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said they are going to tackle the issue on Tuesday during the Commission en banc meeting.
"I am saying this on record. We will talk about it on Tuesday at the en banc meeting. We will be coming up with a resolution asking the President to ask the legislators to postpone the SK elections and should not hold it together with the Barangay polls," said the poll body chief in an interview with reporters.
He noted that they already have a consensus.
"The postponement it is subject to the confirmation of en banc. Although, we already have a consensus," Brillantes said.
If the SK will be postponed, he was asked on what will happen to the present leaders of the youth organization.
"Hindi ko alam. Palagay ko wala na muna kapalit. Basta dapat maipakita na kahit wala yan, tatakbo naman tayo. Ultimately, abolition na susunod," he added.
Brillantes explained that they are asking for the postponement since eventually it will be abolished.
"If its going to be postponed and will not be conducted alongside with the Barangay elections. I think what will follow next is abolition," he added.
The youth polls is scheduled to be held on October 28 together with the barangay elections. (PNA)
