Carlos "Caloy" Yulo made it three in a row in the men's individual all-around event during the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia on Monday, May 8.
Yulo completed the three-peat after scoring 84.00 points, as he also topped the same event in Manila 2019 and Hanoi 2021.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympian bested the Vietnamese pair of Than Thung and Phuong Thanh Dinh, who settled for silver and bronze with scores of 80.45 and 78.15, respectively.
A week before the SEA Games 2023, Yulo withdrew his entry from the fourth leg of the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, from April 27-30, as he suffered an ankle injury during training.
In the first three legs of the competition, the 23-year-old already collected three gold medals in his pet events – floor exercise, vault, and parallel bars – alongside one silver and two bronzes.
Undeterred, the most decorated Filipino athlete in the Hanoi SEA Games 2021, with five gold and two silver medals, willed his way to another titular run.
Earlier on the same date, he helped the men's gymnastics squad composed of Jan Timbang, Justine de Leon, Juancho Besana, Ivan Cruz, and Jhon Santillan to win the silver medal in the team event for the second straight time.
