Ernest John "EJ" Obiena took bronze in the Memorial Ireny Szewinska to resume his outdoor campaign this 2023.
On early Wednesday, June 7, in Bydgoszcz, Poland, Obiena finished third behind champion Chris Nilsen of the United States of America (USA) and Piotr Lisek of Poland.
The world number three leaped 5.72 meters for a joint bronze medal finish with USA's Sam Kendricks.
Obiena tried to overcome the 5.82m clearance but failed in his three tries.
Nilsen cleared 5.92m to snare the gold, while Lisek settled for silver with 5.82m.
Last month, the 27-year-old Tokyo 2020 Olympian came off a historic performance at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2023 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
In the biennial meet, he broke his own SEA Games record after leaping 5.65m to win the gold for the third straight time.
Obiena will next compete in the Bergen Jump Challenge in Norway on Saturday, June 10.
