ECHO will go home with the bronze medal after overcoming a gritty Burn X Flash side, 3-2, in the battle-for-third of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup (MSC) 2023.
The Orcas trailed 2-1 but recovered on time to defeat Cambodia's very own Burn X Flash in their best-of-five (Bo5) series here at AEON Mall Mean Chey on Saturday, June 17.
Reigning Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) Philippines champion ECHO got relegated in the bronze medal match after absorbing a sweep in the hands of Indonesia's ONIC Esports.
On the other hand, Blacklist International of the Philippines outlasted Burn X Flash.
Venting ire against the Cambodian side, Benedict "Bennyqt" Gonzales's Harith towed ECHO to a dominant 18-5 Game One victory after almost 18 minutes.
Bennyqt had 10 kills and four assists without dying once to take the game MVP nod.
Burn X Flash tied the series in Game Two with Filipino gold laner Mariusz "Donut" Tan doing most of the damage. Donut (Brody) tallied a 6/1/2 KDA (kill, death, and assist) for BXF to earn the hard-fought 10-9 triumph within 17 minutes.
With momentum on their side, Cambodia's pride gained a 2-1 advantage in Game Three after surviving ECHO's backdoor attempt. Going neck-to-neck with the Orcas, Burn X Flash used a Blacklist-like lineup featuring Estes, Barats, and Valentina to have their own version of the ultimate bonding experience (UBE).
Ty "D7" Oudom (Estes) led the charge for the defending MPL Cambodia Spring champion's 17-15 win over ECHO with 12 assists on top of zero kills and two deaths.
Facing a critical predicament, Tristan "Yawi" Cabrera's crucial Khufra plays in Game Four brought the epic showdown to a decider.
Yawi executed a two-man knock-off in the 16th minute, allowing Alston "Sanji" Pablico to activate Yve's Real World Manipulation to down three BXF players.
Taking advantage of the situation, the Orcas moved quickly to Burn X Flash's base and destroyed it, with Donut the only one to defend it.
Yawi finished Game Four with 1/3/10 KDA.
In Game Five, ECHO dominated the BXF from start to finish to emerge victorious after nearly 14 minutes, 14-3 in kill score, thanks to Yawi's another MVP-worthy effort.
M4 World Championship winner ECHO bagged 30,000 U.S. dollars or more than 1.6 million pesos.
Meanwhile, Burn X Flash won half of ECHO's prize money. Donut and the rest of BXF's fourth-place finish is so far the highest achievement any Cambodian squad has achieved in a Moonton-sanctioned international competition.
