Ernest John "EJ" Obiena continued his fine form ahead of the Olympic qualifying after bagging bronze in the Ostrava Golden Spike 2023 in the Czech Republic on Tuesday, June 27.
Snaring his second straight bronze after placing third in the Oslo Bislett Games in Norway last week, the Filipino pole vault ace cleared 5.90 meters for another podium finish.
The performance enabled the world number three to eclipse his 5.81-meter mark in the Oslo tiff.
Sweden's Armand Duplantis took the gold after clearing 6.12m, while Australia's Kurtis Marschall beat Obiena for the silver via countback as both cleared the same height.
Earlier this month, Obiena just became the latest member of the exclusive six-meter club in another Norwegian tilt, the Bergen Jump Challenge, by successfully leaping above 6m for the title.
Such is a good sign, as Obiena only needs to overcome the 5.82 bar to qualify for the Paris 2024 Tokyo Olympics.
The next stop for Obiena is Bauhaus-Galam in Duplantis' territory in Stockholm, Sweden on July 2, which serves as Olympic Qualifiers.
