Rondina, Madayag among VTV Cup individual awardees

Sisi Rondina and Maddie Madayag completed the list of individual awardees of the Vietnamese Television (VTV) Cup 2023 after the eight-day competition wrapped up on Saturday, August 26.
Following Vietnam 1's sweep of Vietnam 2, the awarding ceremony named its best of the best players and coronated this edition's Miss Volleyball at Lao Cai Hall in Lao Cai, Vietnam.
Rondina and Kansai University's Tamura Hikaru got the Best Outside Hitter citation, while Madayag and Vietnam 1's Lê Thanh Thúy won the Best Middle Blocker plum.
The high-flying Rondina impressed in her VTV Cup debut by listing 127 points in seven matches with an average of 18 markers per game.
She had her best scoring performance against Kansai U in the battle for third with 24 points – all from attacks. With her taking charge, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans bagged the bronze to become the first-ever Philippine team to win a VTV Cup medal.
For her part, Ateneo de Manila University product Madayag proved her presence on both ends of the floor. Her efficiency in offense and defense helped Choco Mucho reach the final round.
Meanwhile, Trần Thị Thanh Thúy, 4T, of Vietnam 1 was named the Most Valuable Player.
Doan Thi Lam Oanh (Vietnam 1) claimed the Best Setter accolade, Le Thi Thanh Lien (Vietnam 2) took the Best Libero recognition, and Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh (Vietnam 1) clinched the Best Opposite Spiker.
Kieu Trinh was also crowned Miss Volleyball.
VTV Cup has been held annually since 2004 in Vietnam by the Volleyball Federation of Vietnam (VFV) and Vietnam Television as a preparatory tournament for their women's volleyball team – pitting them against invited national teams and clubs globally.
VTV Cup 2023 was trimmed to six participants from seven teams after Mongolia women's national volleyball squad withdrew its participation.
Vietnam will participate in the upcoming 22nd Asian Women's Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand from August 30 – September 6.
The Philippines will also compete in the same competition bannered by Southeast Asian (SEA) V. League 2023 Leg 2 Best Opposite Spiker Alyssa Solomon, National University Bulldogs players, and other collegiate standouts.
