QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Philippine team AP.Bren shrugged off a Game Two hiccup to decimate Cambodia's See You Soon in their best-of-five (Bo5) quarterfinal match, 3-1, in the upper bracket of the M5 World Championship at the EVM Convention Center here on Sunday, December 10.
Remaining undefeated since the group stages, the Bees moved to the UB semifinals, waiting for the winner between Indonesia's Geek Fam and Myanmar's Burmese Ghouls while SYS fell to the lower bracket.
Bren owned the Bo5 opener, dominating the Cambodian bets, 13-5, led by David "Charles" Canon, who nearly went flawless with five kills and four assists on top of one death while using Paquito.
Team captain Angelo "Pheww" Arcangel, named as one of The Greatest 10 Players in the M-series 5th Anniversary, dished 10 assists and a kill for a perfect Game One performance.
In Game Two, Filipino reinforcement Michael "MPTheKing" Endino's Helcurt brought SYS to a one-all tie in under 19 minutes of action behind his 2/2/7 KDA.
Game Three saw the defending MPL Philippines champion assert dominance over the reigning MPL Cambodia titleholder as the former selfishly took every turtle and lord from the latter.
Pheww's Odette pick tallied five kills and three assists without falling once but it was Kyle "KyleTzy" Sayson's Nolan, who got the Most Valuable Player nod with the same KDA performance.
Going berserk, Marco "Super Marco" Requitiano's Brody bullied his way into the match-clinching Game Four with 11 kills and three assists, helping APBR end SYS' resistance in the 17-minute duel.
Making his presence felt once again, Pheww contributed 11 assists for the Ducky-mentored squad.
