A university student from the University of Cambridge was locked in the bathroom of a medieval tower for seven hours but managed to escape by using eyeliner and a cotton bud.
Dr. Krisztina IIko was trapped in the bathroom of her historic flat, found inside a medieval tower of the 16th-century philosopher, Erasmus at Queen's College. The old-fashioned tower is made of thick walls, and heavy wooden doors and has no windows that can muffle any sound or cry for help from the bathroom.
33-year-old Dr.IIko admitted that she got scared of being trapped for days since the incident happened on Thursday and the next cleaning schedule will be the following Monday.
"If people came looking for me would they check the bathroom, or would I have to wait for Monday," Dr.IIko told BBC News.
Luckily after seven hours of failed attempts, Dr. IIko managed to escape the bathroom by using eyeliner to push down the latch of the door and used cotton buds to create a hook out.
"The plumber broke the lock in the bathroom and forgot to tell me. I went in and got locked in. The door is solid wood and wouldn't break. I was stuck for 7 hours (I thought I'd be there for days, as no one could hear). Finally, I handpicked the lock with an eyeliner and an ear pick," she wrote on X.
After the incident, the management removed the lock of the bathroom door. (KBAPI)
