SSS-Baguio targets registration of 3K more members

BAGUIO CITY – The Social Security System (SSS) branch here is eyeing to register at least 3,000 more members across all sectors until December 2024 to allow more workers enjoy their social benefits.
"Registration to SSS is a security for a person, especially for retirement after working for many years. It will also be a protection when getting sick with the sickness benefits available for self-employed members," SSS-Baguio branch manager Nancy Umoso said on the sidelines of the registration drive for media and the tourism sector on Friday.
SSS is doing a month-long registration drive, with local caravans being conducted in provinces and cities like Baguio for workers in the media, culture and arts, as well as vloggers, media artists and city performers or cosplayers.
Umoso said part of the caravans are the information campaign, social security number issuance, and web registration to My-SSS portal.
"As much as possible, we want to catch all (workers) to be registered by explaining to them the benefit of registration, not just to expand membership but more importantly, cover Filipinos with social protection benefits," she said.
On Sunday (July 14), SSS will take part in the activities during the weekly closure of the Session Road by setting up a registration desk to accommodate buskers joining the event.
At least 125,000 employees are registered with the SSS-Baguio, on top of the around 70,000 self-employed members.
Umoso said individuals 18 years and above can register and be a member of SSS under the different categories – - employed, self-employed and voluntary.
Once becoming a member, benefits depend on the number of months of payment contribution.
"Each has a corresponding benefit, I hope they see their protection and benefit as a member and will register," Umoso said. (PNA)
