MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has assisted in the rescue of over 750 individuals in several residential areas in Zamboanga City amid floods on Sunday.
In a statement on Monday, PCG District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Commander, Commodore Marco Antonio Gines, said PCG operations are ongoing to ensure the safety and well-being of local communities.
"Our personnel work tirelessly to rescue those in need and provide them with the necessary support," he said.
In addition, the CGDSWM is monitoring the status of grounded vessels and coordinating with their owners for possible towing operations.
The district's Marine Environmental Protection Group (MEPG) is also assessing the waters in the affected areas for possible signs of oil spill.
It called on the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during inclement weather.
It also advised seafarers to temporarily suspend sailing during strong winds and heavy rains.
On Sunday, floods caused by heavy rains due to the southwest monsoon affected several neighborhoods in Zamboanga City and grounded 16 vessels in the region. (PNA)
