ANKARA – The 2034 Olympic Winter Games will be held in Salt Lake City, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed Wednesday.
"The International Olympic Committee has the honor to announce that the 27th Olympic Winter Games 2034 are rewarded to Salt Lake City, Utah," IOC chief Thomas Bach said at the Committee's 142nd session.
The Games will return to the US state of Utah after more than three decades where the city once hosted the Winter Games.
In addition, it will be the fifth time that the US will host the Winter Games.
New York's village of Lake Placid in 1932 and 1980, and California's ski resort of Squaw Valley in 1960, now called Palisades Tahoe, had hosted the Winter Games before Salt Lake City in 2002.
Salt Lake City, which is near the Twin Peaks, which is famous for such winter sports as skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating, are among popular activities.
Earlier Wednesday, the French Alps were named the 2030 Olympic Winter Games hosts by the IOC under the condition that France delivers financial guarantees.
The next Winter Games will be in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo in 2026. (PNA)
