MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. moved the special non-working holiday for Ninoy Aquino Day from Aug. 21 (Wednesday) to Aug. 23 (Friday).
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, by the authority of the President, signed Proclamation No. 665 on Thursday, amending Proclamation No. 368 series of 2023 which lays out the regular holidays and special non-working days for 2024.
The issuance will provide a long weekend for workers from Aug. 23 to Aug. 26, a Monday.
Aug. 26 is a regular holiday for the observance of National Heroes' Day.
"In order to provide for a longer weekend thereby promoting domestic tourism, the celebration of Ninoy Aquino Day may be moved from 21 August 2024 (Wednesday) to 23 August 2024 (Friday), provided that the historical significance of Ninoy Aquino Day is maintained," Marcos said in the proclamation.
Ninoy Aquino Day commemorates the assassination of former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., the husband of the late former President Corazon Aquino.
Marcos directed the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to issue the appropriate circular to implement the proclamation for the private sector. (PNA)
