MANILA – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has thanked lawmakers at the House of Representatives for allocating P50 billion to fund its modernization program for next year.
"This additional funding will enable the AFP to continue its efforts in acquiring advanced technologies, improving our capabilities in land, air, and sea operations, and addressing current security challenges," AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla said in a message to reporters Sunday night.
Padilla added that next year's P50 billion allocation for the military's modernization is higher by P10 billion than this year's allotment for the measure and signifies the government's dedication to enhancing the country's defensive capabilities.
While this additional funding is a good development, she said the modernization program is an ongoing process that requires sustained support to meet its modernization goals.
"The AFP remains committed to utilizing these resources effectively to ensure the defense and security of our nation, but we acknowledge that further investment will be needed in the coming years to fully realize our modernization goals," Padilla noted.
She also said that the AFP is looking forward to continued partnership with the government and other stakeholders to ensure that all military branches are equipped and prepared to meet the evolving security challenges. (PNA)
