Cavite anti-drug op nets P748-M shabu, 2 suspects nabbed

MANILA – Operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) on Monday arrested two drug suspects and seized from them some P748 million worth of suspected shabu in anti-illegal drug operation in Imus City, Cavite province.
PDEG chief, Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta, said the buy-bust operation took place around 6:26 p.m. at Lavender St. in Barangay Pasong Buaya II, Imus, leading to the arrest of two suspects – a 37-year-old male residing in Pasong Buaya II and a 26-year-old male from Dasma 4, Salawag, DasmariƱas City.
Matta, who witnessed the operation, said the PDEG operatives confiscated a total of 110 kilograms of shabu with a street value of P748 million from the suspects.
The authorities also seized 10 bundles of boodle money worth P1 million, including one genuine P1,000 bill, as well as a cellphone used by the suspects in their transactions.
The operation was also monitored by a village councilor from Pasong Buaya II and a media representative. Body-worn cameras (BWC) and an alternative recording device were used during the operation to ensure transparency.
"The successful operation substantial drug haul is a testament to our relentless efforts to dismantle large-scale drug syndicates operating in our communities," Matta said.
"We are sending a clear message that the PNP-DEG, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, remains fully committed to eradicating illegal drugs and ensuring that those who engage in this illicit trade are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law," he added.
The suspects are currently under the custody of PDEG Special Operation Unit 4A (Calabarzon) for documentation and further investigation. They will face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
