Carzano rules NCFP standard tournament

MANILA – Johnny Wellem Carzano performed well to dominate the FIDE-rated Standard tournament organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Sunday at the Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence (PACE) along Mindanao Avenue, Quezon City.
Carzano prevailed over Karl Friedrich Canalita, Justin Jed Ortillo, Danry Seth Romualdez, John Kenneth Gelua and French Cobi Francisco to finish with 5.0 points, in a tie with Arvie Tombo.
But Carzano had better tiebreak points to claim victory.
Apollo Agapay was second and Lance Nathaniel Orlina, third. Both registered 4.5 points.
" I am very happy with my victory because almost all the top players in Metro Manila and nearby provinces joined the tournament," said Carzano, who hails from Misamis Occidental.
Freddie Talaboc placed fifth followed by Emmanuel Barbosa, Frankel Angela Magpily, Joshua Hesed Crismo, John Kenneth Gelua and LJ Getubig. (PNA)
