'Panata Kontra-Fake News': Media against disinformation

MANILA – Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) have joined forces with top media organizations, universities, and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to create a major new partnership aimed at fighting disinformation.
Inspired by the Kapuso Network's "Panata Kontra-Fake News" campaign, almost 60 partners gathered for the Panata Kontra-Fake News Covenant signing. With the motto "Magkaisa Tayong Labanan ang Fake" they united to fight against fake news and disinformation.
The campaign isn't just for industry leaders – it's a call for every Filipino to join in the fight against fake news and disinformation.
According to a Pulse Asia survey from September 2022, 90% of adults think fake news is a serious issue. Similarly, a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey from late 2021 found that 67% of respondents viewed online fake news as a major problem, and 51% said it's hard to identify fake news.
Joining the Panata Kontra-Fake News Covenant signing are representatives from some of the country's most trusted media organizations., including MBC Media Group (MBCMG) President Ruperto S. Nicdao, Jr, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) President Noel C. Galvez, GMA Network Chairman Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, and COMELEC Chairman Atty. George Erwin M. Garcia, and other representatives from other media organizations and universities.
After the Panata Kontra-Fake News signing, GMA Network plans to launch educational content to help Filipinos recognize fake news and promote a collective effort against disinformation.(KKM)
