Dog in Ireland startled by thunder runs 20 miles away from home

A canine reportedly ran 33 kilometers away from home after getting scared of a thunderstorm in Ireland.
According to the Leitrim Animal Welfare Center's social media post, they have received a call regarding a collie that ran on the loose in Tarmon, County Leitrim.
The Leitrim Animal Welfare Center also said in their post that luckily the dog was wearing a collar and was microchipped.
"We quickly checked his chip number and contacted his owners. Astonishingly, this brave collie had traveled over 33km (20 miles) from Boyle, Co.Roscommon to Tarmon, Co.Leitrim since Sunday," said the animal rescuers.
Currently, the dog is safe and happily reunited with his humans.
Meanwhile, the Leitrim Animal Welfare Center reiterated the importance of microchipping to your pets.
"It provides a permanent way of identifying your pet and ensures that if they ever get lost, there's a much higher chance of being reunited," they said in their Instagram post.
