MANILA – Arellano University banked on Lorenz Capulong to prevail over Lyceum of the Philippines, 91-86, in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 100 men's basketball at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Saturday.
Capulong delivered 30 points and 16 rebounds to tow the Chiefs to a 4-8 record.
"My coaches gave me the confidence," Capulong said.
Arellano led by as much as 15 points late in the third, 69-54, until Lyceum tied at 86-all, only a minute and 26 seconds left.
Ernest Geronimo then sank a floater, the Pirates failed to score in the next play and Renzo Abiera converted on a layup to put the Chiefs ahead anew, 90-86, only 31 seconds to go.
"We just got the breaks and chance in the endgame," Arellano coach Chico Manabat said.
Making matters worse for the Pirates, who tied the Letran Knights for fourth at 6-6, was JM Bravo being knocked unconscious while fighting for the loose ball in the final eight seconds.
He was taken out of the venue on a stretcher.
John Barba had 18 points, four steals, three assists and two steals for Lyceum.
