Bicol provinces suspend work, classes due to TS Kristine

LEGAZPI CITY – Provinces and several cities in the Bicol Region have suspended classes and government offices Tuesday due to Tropical Storm Kristine.
In Catanduanes, Governor Joseph Cua said in his memorandum that offices involved in delivering basic health services, preparedness, and disaster response would continue their operations.
"The suspension of work in the private sector and other organizations is at the discretion of their respective management," Cua added.
All six Bicol Region provinces are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, according to the 5 a.m. bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). Strong winds will prevail in areas where signal no. 1 is hoisted.
The center of Kristine was last seen 390 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.
The provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, and Camarines Norte also suspended work and classes at all levels in all towns and cities.
In Sorsogon, all activities related to the Kasanggayahan Festival scheduled for Tuesday were canceled.
In Naga City, work in government offices and private establishments was also suspended to ensure the safety of the employees and provide time to facilitate disaster response efforts.
Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion said private establishments that decided to proceed with their operations despite the advisory must provide safe and reliable transportation to their employees.
Meanwhile, the suspension of classes issued by various local chief executives in Bicol is still in effect. (PNA)
