LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 5 (Bicol) has activated 23 Motorist Assistance Centers (MACs) along the Maharlika Highway national road starting Thursday to assist travelers going to their provinces in time for All Saints' and All Souls' Days, or "Undas."
DPWH-5 Regional Director Virgilio Eduarte ordered the 16 district engineering offices (DEOs) to mobilize and deploy their men to ensure national road network accessibility.
He said the annual "Lakbay Alalay" Program will continue until Nov. 2 in strategic locations regionwide.
The MACs in Albay are in Legazpi City, Daraga, and Ligao City; in Camarines Norte – Labo and Daet; in Camarines Sur – Sipocot, Pamplona, Naga City, Tigaon and Baao; Catanduanes – Bato, San Andres and Virac; Sorsogon – Sorsogon City and Irosin; and Masbate – Placer, Milagros and Dimasalang.
DPWH-Bicol continues to mobilize regionwide assistance for extensive rescue, clearing, transport assistance, and relief operations in various local government units (LGUs) and other agencies following the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (Trami) last week.
"Our agency will continue to work hard to gradually restore the entire Bicol region, which is home to the so-called Oragons, to its former state," Eduarte said. (PNA)
