CEBU CITY – Cebu City officials met with World Bank (WB) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) representatives to renew their commitment to complete two big-ticket projects – the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the city sewerage master plan.
In a press conference on Friday, Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia said WB officials have raised their concerns over the delay in the construction of the BRT routes.
"They said that by 2026, the (loan) agreement with the World Bank will expire. That's why they want our commitment and support," Garcia said.
He said he reassured the WB officials of the city's commitment to complete the project, noting that the P19-billion BRT project is the only mass transport program in the city.
Garcia also met with representatives of JICA, Yokohama City, and other key stakeholders to discuss the city's Comprehensive Sewerage System Development Project.
The project, he explained, aims to address Cebu City's growing sewage and wastewater management needs by creating a sustainable and efficient sewerage system that would benefit both the environment and the city residents.
The project costs between P20 million and P30 million.
Garcia underscored the city's commitment to improving public health and environmental standards through this collaborative effort with Japanese experts. (PNA)
