Generals boost bid for remaining NCAA semis seat

MANILA – Emilio Aguinaldo College defeated Arellano University, 69-59, Saturday to boost its semifinal bid in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 100 men's basketball at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
Harvey Pagsanjan finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block as the Generals tied the Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates in fourth place at 8-8.
EAC has two more games left – against Lyceum on Tuesday and versus Jose Rizal University on Friday.
If the Generals win both, they will advance to the Final Four for the first time since joining the league 15 years ago.
College of Saint Benilde (13-2), Mapua University (12-3) and defending champion San Beda University (10-5) have already qualified.
King Gurtiza chipped in 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists, while Gelo Loristo had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Generals, who also beat the Chiefs, 87-80 in overtime on Sept. 8.
Tmac Ongotan scored 14 points on top of nine rebounds and had two blocks as Arellano slid to 6-10.
Basil Valencia had 13 points, five rebounds and four steals while Anthony Borromeo added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Chiefs.
In a no-bearing game, San Sebastian College-Recoletos downed University of Perpetual Help, 83-72.
Tristan Francisco led the Stags (5-11) with 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
The Altas (4-12) were paced by Christian Pagaran with 16 points. (PNA)
