Growling Tigresses nab No. 2 spot, Final Four incentive

MANILA – Defending champion University of Santo Tomas demolished Adamson University, 60-47, Saturday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 87 women's basketball at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Ana Mae Tacatac fired four triples to finish with 13 points as the Growling Tigresses notched their 11th win against two losses to secure the No. 2 spot and a twice-to-beat incentive in the semifinal round.
"We want to see the best from the players. We were not consistent from the first to fourth quarters but the silver lining is our defense. Adamson made only 47 points," UST coach Haydee Ong said in the post-match interview.
Kent Pastrana contributed 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists; while Brigette Santos had 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals for UST, which posted its biggest lead at 58-41.
Karylle Sierba chipped in seven points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
The Growling Tigresses will close the elimination round against the also-ran De La Salle University Lady Archers (4-9) on Nov. 23, also at the San Juan venue.
Oluwakemi Adeshina had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Adamson, which took an 11-4 lead in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila University downed University of the East, 64-54, to extend its winning run to four.
The Blue Eagles improved to 8-5 for joint third with the Adamson University Lady Falcons. They will break their tie. also on Nov. 23. to determine the Nos. 3 and 4 places.
In another game, University of the Philippines snapped its five-slump with a 76-61 win over Far Eastern University.
UP (4-9), which finished third last season, will cap its campaign against UE. (PNA)
