NUNS, UST keep lead in UAAP boys' volleyball

MANILA – National University Nazareth School (NUNS) and University of Santo Tomas triumphed Saturday to boost their respective bids for the twice-to-beat semifinal incentive in the UAAP Season 87 boys' volleyball tournament at Paco Arena in Manila.
NUNS defeated Far Eastern University-Diliman, 25-21, 25-23, 26-24, while University of Santo Tomas clobbered University of the Philippines Integrated School, 25-12, 25-9, 25-9, to remain on top at 11-1.
Yuan Mendoza led the Bullpups with 15 attacks while Herbert Miguel Egger chipped in 12 points on eight attacks, three blocks, and one ace.
Irilis Kasim had eight points, including two blocks and two aces, while John Wayne Dionela added eight points.
FEU's Zedrick Dave Calimlim finished with 17 points on 13 attacks, two blocks, and two aces. He scored three straight points that tied the count at 21-all in the third quarter.
Kenneth Maliwanag contributed 10 points, nine on attacks, for the Baby Tamaraws, who slid to fifth place at 5-7.
UST, on the other hand, was paced by John Paul Bautista, who scored 11 points on seven attacks, two blocks, and two aces.
Paolo Medino and Erick Perjes contributed 10 and eight points, respectively.
Marcos Ellis Bamba had 10 points for the Fighting Maroons, who are winless in 12 outings.
University of the East, also seeking the semis incentive, pulled off a 25-15, 25-17, 25-15 win over De La Salle-Zobel.
Lance Babon scored 16 points on 15 attacks and one block as the Junior Warriors stayed in second place at 10-2, while the Junior Archers fell to 3-9.
In the other match, Adamson University outclassed Ateneo de Manila University, 25-10, 25-8, 25-17, to move closer to a semis berth.
Jims Ducusin scored eight points on seven attacks and a block as the Baby Falcons improved to 7-5, while the Blue Eagles took their 11th loss against one win. (PNA)
