MTRCB, Victorias City team up for responsible viewing advocacy

BACOLOD CITY – The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has collaborated with Victorias City in Negros Occidental in advocating for "Responsableng Panonood" (responsible viewing) among its residents in the line with the administration's "Bagong Pilipinas" campaign.
On Sunday, the partnership was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between MTRCB Chairperson Diorella Maria Sotto-Antonio and Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez at Marjhun's Snackbar and Restaurant in this northern Negros city.
"To the MTRCB, thank you for partnering with our city for invaluable advocacy that is aligned to our shared commitment to support responsible media and child protection," Benitez said.
He added that Victorias City is "one with the vision of MTRCB in building more informed, compassionate, and enlightened communities and a nation of media-literate individuals who can effectively analyze, discern, and engage with various media content".
The MOU signing was held alongside the "Responsableng Panonood" seminar, which was attended by 150 participants from various concerned sectors, discussing various topics, including "The Imitative Behaviors, Steps to Good Digital Parenting and Parental Controls" as well as "Viewing Experiences of Children of the Philippines Using Digital Platforms and the Screentime Guidelines By Age".
"This seminar is a key part of our ongoing commitment to promote responsible viewing and to consciously educate and empower every Filipino family to choose age-appropriate and value-rich content that affects and reflects their ideals and fosters positive growth," Sotto-Antonio said.
In September last year, the MTRCB first engaged with the city government by conducting the first "Responsableng Panonood" seminar attended by local leaders, parents and teachers.
Under the MOU, the MTRCB shall assist Victorias City in promoting and increasing both awareness and practical knowledge of the film and television classification and ratings system.
It shall also provide content in such media literacy and other similar fora, that may be co-organized by the city government, including but not limited to the development and conduct of seminars and workshops, film expositions, and multi-sectoral summits.
For its part, the city government will assist the MTRCB in providing adequate resource persons and other advocacy, seminars, and materials pertaining to the proper appreciation and understanding of the classification and rating system of motion pictures and television programs.
A team from the city government shall coordinate with MTRCB in all matters, information, and documentary requirements regarding the promotion of the "Responsableng Panonood" campaign locally. (PNA)
