NDRRMC: Nearly 239K families affected by 3 cyclones

MANILA – A total of 238,982 families have so far been affected by three consecutive typhoons Nika (Toraji) and Ofel (Usagi) and Super Typhoon Pepito (Man-yi), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday.
In its latest situation report, the agency said this is equivalent to 852,475 individuals in 2,152 villages in the Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
As of this posting, 24,421 families or 75,581 persons are being aided inside 566 evacuation centers while another 11,541 families or 36,077 persons are being helped outside.
There are no reports yet of any deaths or missing persons as of this time. However, reports of two injured persons in Central Luzon have been confirmed.
Meanwhile, families preemptively evacuated numbered 150,821 which is equivalent to 514,576 persons in llocos region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Bicol.
Damaged houses were placed at 7,838 and these were recorded in Regions 1,2, 3, and the CAR. Of these, 7,401 are classified as "partially damaged" and 437 as "totally damaged".
Meanwhile, infrastructure damage was estimated at P469.85 million and these were recorded in Regions 2, 3, and the CAR.
Army intensifies rescue, relief efforts in Cagayan
Meanwhile, the Philippine Army (PA) on Sunday said rescue and relief teams from the 525th Engineer Combat Battalion of the Combat Engineer Regiment intensified relief and rescue efforts for families affected by successive typhoons in Santa Ana, Cagayan on Nov. 15.
In a statement, Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said the unit's light urban search and rescue team in close cooperation with other government responders hauled and distributed 238 relief packs to families in Barangays Diora Zinungan and Rapuli in Santa Ana town.
"The team also rescued a total of 14 vulnerable residents affected by the extensive flooding in Barangays Samok, Bato and Marede also in the same town," he added.
Dema-ala also assured the public that the PA's humanitarian assistance and disaster response teams' operational readiness and commitment to help save calamity-afflicted families and provide aid to communities affected by the recent successive storms that affected most of Luzon. (PNA)
