Alexandra Eala secured a historic victory by defeating World No. 2 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open.
In the biggest match of her career, she continued her historic streak by toppling five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek, 6-2, 7-5, securing a spot in the Miami Open semifinals. She first stunned World No. 25 and 2017 French Open champion Jeļena Ostapenko of Latvia with a hard-fought 7-6 (2), 7-5 victory. Eala pulled off another upset, taking down WTA No. 5 Madison Keys in the Round of 32 before making her way to the quarterfinals.
Following her win on Wednesday, Eala dedicated her achievement to the Philippines. "It feels amazing because I know this is a historical achievement, which I dedicate to my country. It's also a huge personal achievement, and for that I'd love to give myself and my team a pat on the back. It's not the end goal. Keep working, " she said.
This victory marks the biggest win of Eala's career. Currently ranked No. 140 in the world, she is also the youngest player in the 2025 Miami Open's elite eight, competing alongside Grand Slam champions and Olympic medalists.
