Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman George Garcia announced that, aside from the European Union, Japan and the United States will also send representatives to observe the upcoming national elections.
"We accepted this challenge despite the amount of preparation," Garcia said, noting that around 50 members of the executive board are expected to attend an upcoming election-related meeting.
Garcia emphasized that the presence of foreign observers reflects strong confidence in the country's election security and integrity. He also reported that about 80 percent of the satellite communication devices have already been distributed to voting centers and canvassing venues, with full deployment expected before election day.
In March, COMELEC released guidelines mandating that both local and foreign individuals who wish to observe the May elections must apply for accreditation.
