Pastor Apollo Quiboloy
Detained televangelist and senatorial aspirant Apollo Quiboloy is demanding a manual recount of Senate votes, citing alleged election anomalies.
Quiboloy's team, represented by his official spokesperson Atty. Israelito Torreon, issued the appeal on Tuesday evening, expressing gratitude to those who voted for the embattled senatorial hopeful, a member of the "DuterTEN" lineup backed by former President Rodrigo Duterte.
"On behalf of Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, we sincerely thank the millions of Filipinos who supported his senatorial bid. Your trust and belief in his message of truth, justice, and accountability have been truly moving. Indeed, no injustice can stop a people awakened and united in faith and conviction.," said Quiboloy's legal counsel, Atty. Israelito Torreon. "With numerous reports of overvoting anomalies, inconsistencies in ballot readings, and other electoral irregularities, Pastor Quiboloy calls for a manual recount of the senatorial votes. This is not a rejection of our democratic process, but a call to strengthen it," he added.
Quiboloy's camp emphasized it's not to oppose democracy but to uphold it, vowing to pursue legal action. They also stressed that the fight doesn't end with the elections.
The Church founder is in detention while facing charges of child and sexual abuse, along with human trafficking cases in both the Philippines and the United States where he continues to deny all allegations.
