The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has emphasized that there will be no extension for the filing of the Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) for candidates in the recent elections. All candidates, whether they won or lost, are required to submit their SOCE by June 11, 2025.
Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco explained that the commission is bound by law and cannot adjust the deadline. "The Supreme Court has repeatedly held that the Comelec lacks the authority to alter the deadline as specified by the statute," he said. Under Republic Act 7166, all candidates and political parties must file a "full, true, and itemized" account of all campaign contributions and expenses within 30 days after election day.
Laudiangco also noted that even winning candidates cannot assume office if they fail to comply. A first offense may result in fines ranging from P1,000 to P30,000, while repeated violations could lead to permanent disqualification from holding public office.
