Senator Risa Hontiveros said she will refile the Divorce Bill in the 20th Congress if it remains stalled in the current Senate. The bill is still on second reading after undergoing two interpellations.
Speaking at the Kapihan sa Senado forum, Hontiveros said she remains committed to pushing for the bill. "If it still doesn't move forward, we'll just refile. That's my commitment," she said.
Hontiveros has long supported divorce, saying it offers a legal way out for people in abusive or failed marriages. "A system that heals and gives second chances is better than one that ignores suffering," she said.
She also expressed support for the SOGIESC Bill and the Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Bill, which are both pending in the Senate.
The SOGIESC Bill aims to protect people from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Meanwhile, the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy Act was vetoed by President Marcos last year after opposition from conservative groups.
