Starting Monday, June 16, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will roll out a 24-hour odd-even number coding scheme along EDSA.
During a press briefing, MMDA Chair Romando Artes announced that the 24-hour odd-even traffic scheme along EDSA will take effect on June 16. The system restricts vehicles from entering EDSA based on the last digit of their license plates. Cars with plate numbers ending in odd digits (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) will not be allowed on the road every Wednesday and Friday, while those ending in even digits (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) will be restricted on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The scheme will not apply on Sundays.
"Sa ngayon, magiging 24 hours ang odd/even scheme. Pero tinitignan naming gawin 'yan limited sa window hours," according to MMDA Chair Romando Artes.
Artes said electric and hybrid vehicles will not be covered by the new number-coding scheme on EDSA and also noted that during the one-week dry run, violators will be issued tickets without corresponding fines. Additionally, provincial buses, trucks, and other large vehicles will only be allowed on EDSA between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
To ease traffic flow during the EDSA rehabilitation, the MMDA will start daily clearing operations along the "Mabuhay Lanes," which are designated alternate routes across Metro Manila. These enhanced operations will kick off next week. Meanwhile, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon announced that toll fees will be waived for the Skyway Stage 3 segment being used as a detour.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan announced that preliminary night work on the EDSA rehabilitation will start on June 13, with the entire project slated for completion by 2027.
