The Senate is under pressure as protests continue over the delayed impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte where progressive groups, religious organizations, and civil society groups have begun a three-day protest and prayer vigil in front of the Senate building.
Among those urging senators to begin the impeachment trial without further delay are Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN), Akbayan Partylist, ML Partylist, and Tindig Pilipinas. "Pupunta tayo sa Senado para iparinig sa ating senators na ang mamamayan ay klaro ang mensahe na dapat sundin ng Senado ang konstitusyon," said Akbayan President Rafaela David.
The impeachment charges were originally set to be read on June 2 but were postponed by Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero to June 11, the last day of the current Congress.
Public opinion is strongly in favor of the trial which surveys from Social Weather Stations, OCTA Research, and WR Numero found that 78% to 90% of Filipinos support moving forward with the proceedings.

Protesters warn that delaying the process undermines public trust in government and accountability.
