An Air India flight bound for London Gatwick crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport, killing 241 of the 242 people on board.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, Flight 171, was carrying 217 adults, 11 children, and 2 infants when it went down during lunchtime, hitting a medical college hostel near the airport.
Only one passenger survived, 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh who is in seat 11A. The lone survivor recalled hearing a loud noise 30 seconds after takeoff before the crash. As of this writing, authorities have recovered 204 bodies so far. Victims included 53 Britons, 169 Indian nationals, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian.
The plane made a mayday call before losing contact where photos and videos showed smoke, debris, and the tail lodged atop the building. This marks the first recorded crash involving a Boeing 787.
