President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that the government will launch a broader school feeding initiative in July, aiming to improve the nutrition and academic performance of Filipino students.
During his speech on the opening of School Year 2025 – 2026 at Epifanio Delos Santos Elementary School, Marcos said, "Tapos 'yung sa feeding program din natin mag-start next month…Kaya pinalaki natin, pinalawak natin dati, pinalawak natin 'yung feeding program para sa mga kabataan."
Marcos explained that the initiative supports the Department of Social Welfare and Development's ongoing efforts to promote early childhood development.
The enhanced school feeding program will cover the entire academic year, ensuring students receive free meals daily. President Marcos also instructed the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to boost internet connectivity in schools, pointing out that only 60 percent currently have WiFi access. To further protect learners, he ordered the installation of CCTV cameras in and around school premises.
