President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the executive branch are open to lifestyle checks as part of the government's anti-corruption efforts following alleged flood control project anomalies.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized that Marcos Jr. is willing to release his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) if necessary, stressing the move is about accountability, not politics. "Lahat ng miyembro ng ehekutibo ay ready for lifestyle check, pati ang pangulo," Castro said. She also reminded the public not to divert the issue away from accountability. "Lumalayo kasi tayo sa isyu, sinabi po natin na ang pangulo, ang buong ehekutibo ay ready for lifestyle check. So, huwag po tayo lumayo sa isyu. Ang isyu ngayon ay tuligsain at habulin ang mga involved sa flood control projects. Wag natin ibahin at huwag tayo medyo mamolitika," the Palace Press Officer added.
Castro noted that the Ombudsman, as an independent constitutional office, has the mandate to initiate such investigations.
Earlier, President Marcos directed executive agencies to undergo lifestyle checks in response to reports of anomalies in several flood control projects.
