Pres. Marcos Jr. to meet ASEAN leaders in Malaysia for 47th Summit and PH chairmanship

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. will travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 26 to 28, 2025, to participate in the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
DFA officials said Marcos will join leaders from ASEAN member states and partner countries to discuss regional security, economic cooperation, and global challenges. Key agenda items include the formal admission of Timor-Leste as ASEAN's 11th member, an update to the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, and the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area upgrade.
The President is expected to promote Philippine interests on regional stability, trade, and strategic partnerships. He will also hold bilateral meetings with other leaders during the summit.
Malaysia will officially turn over the ASEAN chairmanship to the Philippines during the event, marking the start of preparations for the country's ASEAN leadership in 2026.
