Fire hits famous Star City amusement park

Since its opening way back 1991, Star City has always been one of the most visited attractions in the country.

With fun filled rides and games around every corner the 32,000 square feet amusement park has given memories to love and cherish across generations.

On the early morning of Wednesday, October 2 however, fire broke out engulfing at least 80% of the well-known amusement park as well as parts of Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) which houses DZRH, Yes the Best, Love Radio, Easy Rock, and Radyo Natin FM.

According to reports, the fire started around 12:20 AM and was quickly raised to Task Force Bravo at 2:25 AM as the fire spread quickly.

Pasay City Fire Marshal Superintendent Paul Pili added that they will be conducting a 45 day investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, Star City spokesperson Atty. Rudolph Jularbal clarified that a tweet stating that, "Star City is dying" was not related to the incident that happened in the amusement park.

Atty. Jularbal added that the now deleted tweet of user name "12Designs" was referring to a television series and not the said park.

Netizens have also expressed their sadness over the incident sharing their memories on social media, with some stating their now cancelled plans to visit the park over the coming holidays.

In an official statement from the Malacañang, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo also extended the Palaces sympathies.

"As we near Christmas, this is truly sad news knowing that Star City is a place where Filipino families visit to celebrate the Yuletide season."

"To our friends in the media who are affected, we wish to let them know that we are one with them in this tragic incident. We call on government instrumentalities to extend any form of assistance to those hit by the blaze," Panelo said.

In a statement, MBC assured that DZRH is expected to go back on-air within 48 hours or less.

Meanwhile, Star City management announced that it will be closed through the Christmas season and is eyeing to reopen on October 2020.
