BANI, Pangasinan – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is rehabilitating roads prone to slips, slope collapse, and landslides along the Alaminos-Bolinao Road in Barangay Tiep in this town to increase the safety of travelers and reduce the possibility of landslides.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, DPWH 1 (Ilocos) information officer Esperanza Tinaza said slope protection is essential to prevent collapse or erosion as heavy rains and unexpected natural disasters such as earthquakes may have a significant impact on the slope stability of roads.
This was after a magnitude 7 earthquake shook northern Luzon on July 27.
"The scope of work includes construction of stone masonry and laying out of active wire mesh and erosion control mat. Construction of (a) lined canal is also underway to prevent rising of water to the road," she said.
Once completed, the critical slope of the Alaminos-Bolinao Road would be more stable, increasing the safety of the traveling public, she added.
About P96.5 million has been allocated from the General Appropriations Act of 2022 for the implementation of the project. (PNA)
