MANILA – Japan has earmarked 314 million yen (approximately P129 million) to award scholarship grants to young Filipino civil servants, the Japanese Embassy in Manila said Friday.
The exchange of notes for the 21st Batch of the Human Resource Development Scholarship by the Japanese Grant Aid (JDS) Project was signed by Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Kazuhiko Koshikawa and Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo on September 16.
"Through this program, the JDS fellows will have the opportunity to enhance their talents and become experts in their respective fields. This is a component of Japan's support for the Philippine government's human resource development initiatives," the embassy said.
The JDS is a scholarship project financed by the Japanese government as part of its Official Development Assistance to the Philippines.
It aims to support government officials in achieving their full potential, and assist in the socioeconomic advancement of the country.
In August, the embassy sent off a total of 20 scholars from the 20th Batch, bringing to 419 the fellows Japan financed from the Philippines.
The embassy has yet to announce the start of the application but those interested may visit the JDS Philippines webpage for future announcements https://jds-scholarship.org/country/philippines/index.html. (PNA)
