DAVAO CITY – Not a single transport group in Davao Region has filed a petition for a fare increase compared to other areas in the country, an official of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in the region (LTFRB-11) said Monday.
"The LTFRB-11 did not receive any petition for a fare increase from transport groups in the region. But I have to know yet if there were transport groups who directed their petition to the central office," said LTFRB-11 Director Nonito Llanos III.
Llanos noted that transport groups from the National Capital Region and Regions 4 and 5, have submitted their respective petitions, which were subsequently approved by the LTFRB on Sept. 16.
The LTFRB agreed to a P-1 provisional increase for traditional public utility jeepneys (TPUJ) and modern public utility jeepneys (MPUJ) for the first four kilometers, bringing the minimum fare for TPUJ to P12 and MPUJ to P14.
There will also be an additional fare of P0.30 per succeeding kilometer for TPUJ and P0.40 per for MPUJ, making the succeeding kilometer run fare for TPUJ adjusted to P1.80 from P1.50 and for MPUJ to P2.20 from P1.80.
The last reported fare increase in this region was approved in July 2022 for the public utility jeepney's minimum fare in Davao Region that was hiked to P11 per passenger.
Llanos said the increase in the public transport fare was due to the series of increases in prices of fuel products. (PNA)
