MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is monitoring three weather disturbances.
Weather forecaster Benison Estareja said Thursday a weak tropical depression was spotted 1,775 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
"It is heading towards mainland Japan, so we are not expecting it to have an effect or be near our landmass," Estareja said.
A low pressure area (LPA) was spotted over 2,000 km. east of the Visayas, and is not forecast to affect the country's weather until the weekend.
Another LPA was tracked east of Central Luzon.
"Currently, it does not have a direct effect, and it is expected to remain at the PAR line in the next 24 hours. Over the weekend, however, it will likely start bringing rains over parts of Luzon and the Visayas. This LPA may possibly develop into a tropical cyclone over the weekend," he said.
For Thursday, PAGASA forecasts isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms to prevail across the country.
Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will continue to prevail over extreme northern Luzon.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. (PNA)
